Can anyone recommend a good book of cloth for hunt evening coats, specifically a dark blue cloth? The older hunt tails that one sees from time to time appear to be doeskin - is that a guess correct? If so, are Hainsworth (http://www.hainsworth.co.uk/apparel/uniform/) a good bet?
Thank you in advance.
Cloth for hunt coats
The modern prescription for a hunt ball full evening coat would be barathea in the color of the hunt or in black/blue with silk turned edges (revers) in the color of the hunt. So any barathea book should do. The traditional Melton would be too heavy for current heated interiors.
My pleasure, YL. I´m really glad that there´s still someone out there who finds this kind of information useful.
I don´t know if your looking for cloth means that you plan to go CMT with your own tailor for this project, but if I were in need of something fully formal in equestrian/sporting, I would not hesitate to put myself in the hands of Dege & Skinner. Norton & Sons also used to be good at this, but I heard Mr. Grant has moved the shop to more modern territory lately.

If the dress is equestrian and your willing to pay for one of the bigger house on the row then Michael Smith is the number 1 on the row at Kilgore (royal warrant through Bernard wearheral)
