I know the London Lounge is a site for Gentlemen, but maybe you could help my girlfriend out. She is looking for a top-notch tailor who will do full bespoke suiting, or something reasonably close, in New York. I have tried to get her to use the services of a visiting SR tailor but she (rightly) points out that she is fussy enough to want close contact and proximity with her tailor and cutter, so London-based services are out of the question. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help in advance.
By the way, we just came back from a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday in London, where I had a fitting with Thomas Mahon. Very excited about my new suit, which, though heavily basted and in need of several adjustments, looked highly promising.
Top Women's Tailors in New York?
I know of one place: Dara Lamb. But my wife has mixed reviews of her stuff. She liked some made to measure Belvest suits she purchased, but was less pleased with the house brand.
Davide Cenci, I believe, also does women's Belvest MTM.

I believe Chanel still does couture suits. I think YSL, Dior and John Galliano may do so as well.
Personally, I am not fond of women in ultra traditional tailored clothing, unless it is a Marlene Dietricht (sp?) type look. I think the above brands would at least add a bit of femininity to a otherwise unflattering look. You may also want to check Kiton and Borrelli as their women's collections are tailored, but manage to keep an air of femininity. As I said, I prefer women to dress in ultra-feminine clothing, and I think the top four I listed can do classic suits, unbelievable workmanship, femininity, and a huge (at least $6000+) pricetag.

Hmm, this is turning out to be more difficult than I expected. What my girlfriend is looking for is a maker of high-quality women's suits for work, not so much a couture/fashion thing.
Maybe I'll revise the question: who are the LL's favorite New York tailors? I can then ask them directly whether they do women's wear.
thanks!

Brioni in Manhattan has some corporate looking, nicely made women's clothing. I have never seen a canvassed women's jacket that looks good, so real tailors may not be the way to go. My mother had some bespoke Brioni women's suits made a long time ago, and they lasted very well.

Names of NY tailors that commonly come up are - Frank Shattuck, Nino Corvato, Leonard Logsdail and a few others that I cannot recall.

Kiton has womenswear. I do not know if they do bespoke or MTM.
Oxxford can do womens suits and coats MTM. I would recommend only the Oxxford Store for this service, and it may require a fitting by Rocco, the head tailor, on one of his trips from Chicago.

I'm not sure which NYC tailors make suits for women. However, if the tailor can get the fit right, the "feminine air" can be acquired through detailing. For example, a slim, short, clean, waisted coat with roped shoulders, piped sleeves, significantly narrow lapels, along with high waisted, flat-front, straight-leg or slightly flared floor reaching trousers (with heels) will look professional, powerful, yet feminine, especially paired with an open neck silk shirt or something similar.
Perhaps you should also try Lianna Lee. I have not heard the best things about her men's suits, but she is a woman and will likely do or know someone who does women's suits.
Please let us know what you find. I have some friends who may also be interested.

Again for work clothes I would suggest Dara Lamb or Davide Cenci. They both carry Belvest women's suits. Also, try Barney's. They have a line from Piazza Sempione that is very stylish but appropriate for work. I think my wife spends half her salary on their stuff
Dara Lamb uses Hartz to make many of her house garments.
She has two lines: the more expensive one is made by Belvest
