Yours truly at about 12 years old. Underlined. The bow tie, only one in the class to wear one. Followed instructions on folding hands in lap for the photographer. The too short trousers, all the better to show off suede shoes with crepe soles, worn, of course, without shoelaces. Nothing remarkable. But just enough. At 12.

Once in a while. It often seems like a good idea in theory, but at the last minute I usually switch to a long tie. Bow ties seem to send such a strong message, that it usually doesn't seem to be worth it, except in the right company, or when wearing black or white tie.

Interestingly, there were several teachers at the school who exclusively wore bow ties. It was all, as you can probably tell from the photo, New England, rather than London, England, but it was a good place to start.
