I found solace only in linen...cotton sear sucker a distant second.

In the last 15 years or so I have taken to wear cotton seersucker a lot. I think that it's something you learn with age and I'm not sure why but it's a cloth that looks better on older men.
From pajama bottoms to full lounging suits, its puckered surface leaves pockets of air on the skin which provide great ventilation and IMO it even feels more pleasant than linen to the touch. In the case of jackets you've got to be careful with the lining or you'll kill all the benefits of this wonderful underrated cloth.

I agree it is a lovely alternative, but I'm not so sure about the older men - my view is that seersucker is far more popular in the US than in Europe. The Europeans may worry a bit less about linen wrinkles on the other hand...

Count me another seersucker devotee. In the southern US, it has long been the original performance fabric.
