I hear you. The Loden I know is pure wool worn by hunters, farmers and as country clothing. The "Himalaya Luxus" you are showing may the a gentrified version with Alpaca, which could be something Italians and other fashion conscious people go for

Gentlemen,

I did some research - the mystery may be resolved. Loden Steiner in Austria is a well know Loden mill. They do a Loden with 50% alpaca and "stichhair" http://www.loden-steiner.at/v_steiner_4 ... ekend.html

The Loden I probably have to get is their Schladminger from native sheep, up to 1000g

My 1 kilo Schladminger is being made into my LL reefer design as we speak. It is very rustic cloth and you need a good Stihl chain saw to cut it and a stilleto instead of a needle. But it is great stuff. My tailor could not get the needle through it and threw in the towel a few times but with the help of the Stihl and Stiletto I have him back working on it.

As much as the chestnut brown is very nice. I prefer this color and have just acquired a length of loden in this shade.

My vote is for alpaca pile. Probably a shorter, sheared hair.

I have the above depicted coat in brown.

I thought I could be terribly clever and contacted Laura Biagioti.it with a picture of coat no.3. from their 1992 winter collection.
Unfortunately they cannot give me a proper solution as it is so long ago the record and samples are no longer with them. So too bad.
I also think that Michael Aldens picture of the wool Loden and alpaca mix is most likely. where can it be had I wonder, especially in that chestnut /tobacco colour.

In any case, I am going to do a test of this shade of brown in a Cheviot herringbone.

I would love to see how this turns out...especially if you pair it with brown flannel or corduroy trousers...or better yet, trousers made from the Brown Eden In Paris cloth from the LL/Fox Flannel catalog

My vote is for alpaca pile.

It's usually llama or alpaca pile, but it could be any other wool.

Don't think of a conventional woven cloth, but see it more as a tufted carpet. On one side there is the luscious pile, on the other side there is a mesh where the wool got tufted into. I believe, that mesh is actually cotton or hemp or something similar.
