Stylish cap to cover the ears?

Costi, a very nice Karakul Papakhi, in the cafe au lait colour that Bukhara is famous for. I want to make a coat lining from the same colour pelts one day, to button into a few Ulsters.

Like a felt hat (and unlike other fur hats - the Ambassador, or the kind with earlaps) it looks best when it doesn't sit straight on the head, like an upside down pot. It's incredible how much the look changes as soon as you give it a little slant on one eyebrow and a bit of forward tipping. The shape is very simple and works to great effect. The hat is small, but warm (other shapes of fur hats can easily overwhelm by sheer size). It doesn't cover the ears, but I can live with that

I'm sure it would make an excellent overcoat lining AND collar!

My recent acquisitions, bought directly from a Moldavian farmer and manufacturer in Romania. Nothing to cover the ears - but they all keep me very warm

The mid grey Astrakhan is very versatile, I will wear it often. The light grey one is an incredibly soft fur and somehow less formal. The nutria will compliment a covert coat which is currently in production.

Your advice, as usual, makes lots of sense from the esthetics point of view but..... it's sooo difficult to achieve comfortably with an Ambassador. There are no brims to play around with and when I tip it forward it leaves the back of my head more exposed and it feels precariously perched on my forehead. I've been experimenting with my hat and I believe I may have found another solution to the dreaded stiff "upside down pot" look. Since its construction is quite soft I could lower its front by pinching the top front and sides and at the same time sliding the turn up down like half an inch (I have to loosen it a bit). This bent down the front of the hat without raising its back giving a total illusion of inclination. Of course I still slant it towards one side as you suggested and as is brilliantly illustrated in Alden's "two tilted fedora" clip.

What Costi describes is elegant with the Papakhi he bought, as with a felt hat, but indeed impossible with the Ambassador. The Papakhi has a different shape, like a pillbox, and it is a lot lighter.

As you found out, you can play a little with the Ambassador, too. But it is more subtle, as the hat is heavier in weight. Bend down the front a little, play and tweak the top as you wish to avoid the Leonid Brezhnev look
