Stetson, I would not claim an expert eye but at the forward fitting I thought the coat looked very good. Some might prefer it a tad shorter but I like my coats that length so I wouldn't quibble. The balance looks good, as does the fit of the collar from what we can see. The trousers are a little difficult to judge before the final alteration and with those shoes! For a first go with a new tailor I would say its looking promising.Stetson wrote:Hm! Just the one comment in 1o days .... Is the fir that bad?! If so, I'd really appreciate some guidance. Will, of course, be posting pics of the finished product in a couple of months, after collection in May. And ordering another from the same tailor! So, I would think there's still time to make any changes (albeit not very basic ones). Comments without fear or favour please!

Think of it the other way round. People are quick to criticise and slow to praise. I think people are waiting to see the finished article (on some decent shoes) before they add their comments.Stetson wrote:Hm! Just the one comment in 1o days .... Is the fit that bad?
Scot : Thanks for the comments. I do agree the coat is just that bit longer than I'd have liked it to be but Mr Austin, the senior cutter (I think), said it looks right as it is. As it is my first commission to the firm, I decided to let them have their way. But you are right, I think it should be about an inch shorter and I'll ask them if it could be drawn in a bit. Many thanks again. Stetson.

This is a great lesson for every new bespoke client: for the investment you are making in bespoke clothing, insure that you are properly dressed to attend the fittings. And that includes wearing the shirt you intend on ....and the shoes!
I think the coat length could be a bit shorter but it is hard to tell. The button point as chalked on the coat seems a little low to me but let the tailor make it as is and then make changes for the next one if required.
The trousers seem long and lack sufficient rise, but once again, wait to see the outcome to judge. Remember that your first suit is always a learning experience for you and your tailor.
Cheers

Good luck with the suit, I hope you get a lot of pleasure out of it!...I was wondering about the cloth you picked. The flash photography maybe shows it lighter than reality. I thought it resembled the try-on suit they keep for their m2m process...can you let us know the cloth you chose, and the weight?...thanks, Rowly.
Hi! Thanks. It is 11 oz ("cos I wanted something I could use in India), a grey herringbone pattern and is supplied to them by the Yorkshire Textile Consultancy (whatever that is but they say it is a firm run by a man who is ex Huddersfiled or some such firm).

Stetson,
I think you picked a good cloth, and a crisp, tight weave should hopefully keep you on the cooler side of an 11oz cloth. You did mention your legs..and although it may be a trick of the light, or the way you are standing, .... the crease seems to be running off a bit, especially on the left leg. This should be easily addressed..and might even be a simple pressing matter.
In any case, I look forward to seeing the finished article, and good luck! Rowly.

I would have the sleeves a tad longer, say 1/4" to 1/2".
Stetson - any update?

Though not exactly a bespoke garment I had it made a badge by B&C of superb manufacture and decent price, fifty something pounds. Here it is for you to admire. Sorry I tried in vain to attach for I keep receiving this message. "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached". It is only a 28kb picture anyway.
Castiglione, use an image hosting site (www.imageshack.com for instance) and post the links to the pictures here. It's the only way for the time being...

Here you have, I hope, the badge. In case you wonder it represents an imaginary Biscay´s coat of arms taken from a tapistry made around the beginning of the XVII Century. Thought it funny to have it on my blazer (an informal one, anyway). It will be a wonderful way of discussing something other than weather.
