I was wondering if someone has recent experience with Smith’s Finmeresco. I have the 11/12 oz book [Merino 4-ply] to peruse. I searched LL for discussion of Smith’s Finmeresco. I found brief references to it scattered in various threads, and a mention that a few years ago there was a thread on “Smith’s New Finmeresco.” But I could not find that or more recent opinions. Then again, maybe my search parameters are all wrong. Anyway, I have some Minnis Fresco and Holland & Sherry Crispaire [and a commitment to the new RAF PoW Brisa], but no experience with Finmeresco.

Smith Woollens' Finmeresco
The heavier weight (11/12) is very fine. If pressed, I'd go for the Brisa, which has choices of patterns, more classic colors, and a much heavier drape. But tailors love the Finmeresco and it is a fine spring (or cool-summer-day) weight cloth. So if you like what you see, buy without fear.
I've also teed up a summer blazer and dinner suit in the lighter 10oz-- we'll see how that goes.

Thank you very much. I keep turning to the blue/gray #4047, for some reason. The book I'm looking at also included three swatches of lighter stuff, stapled in, of 9/10 oz, dark, mid, and light gray.
I have the blue gray, which is excellent cloth if a bit warmer wearing than the Minnis 9/10. Like Concordia, if cool wearing is not your highest priority I would also go for the Brisa.
Thanks, Will. Glad to learn that the 11 oz Finmerseco is well received. For this one, cooler wearing is my priority along with a bit smoother hand than Fresco. My tailor thinks the blue gray Finmeresco has teal in it. Maybe he's right. Then again he is a wonderfully stubborn man who sometimes won't put on his reading glasses for such things. I didn't realize some previously made 13 oz Brisa was still left, until the helpful replies by you and Concordia, and was content to wait for LLBR09. Now I feel discontent.
Interesting. I have a navy suit in it that I love. I wanted to get a gray suit, but was told Finmeresco didn't come in gray. So I ordered a suit from the H&S Crispaire. Are the grays from Smiths brand new?JCH wrote:Thank you very much. I keep turning to the blue/gray #4047, for some reason. Don't know, but there are charcoal greys in each of the 2 weights.
Don't know either. Book was Finmeresco from Isles Textiles with the three lighter weight swatches stapled in as add ons. I will ask and get the numbers, if tailor still has the book.
Was able to see book again, but too late to call Isle Textiles. The book does not include grays in 11 oz, other than the above mentioned somewhat light/mid blue-(teal?)-gray 11oz, #4047. The 9/10 oz (290 grams) grays (stapled in the book as add ons) were light gray #4068, mid-gray #4069, and what one might call charcoal # 4070. Don't know if those are new. And I don't know why the book does not have other 11oz grays, if any. A call to Isle Textiles here in the States or Smith's in UK might provide answers.
