We're going to Budapest for a long week-end, and I am wondering if anyone would like to recommend any place in particular....
We'll be staying at the Meridian.

There is a nice German restaurant next door in the Kempinski. Vass within walking distance (Eva is only there on monday afternoons if I recall).
We had a very good Hungarian dinner at this restaurant:

They had a very good wine list, in particular a very good late harvest Tokay, which I drank with smoked goose liver (similar to a French foie gras).
The best cakes we had were at the New York cafe (better than Gerbaud's). Both the New York cafe and Gerbaud are worth a visit.
Overall, the food and pastries are not up to Paris (or New York, San Francisco, London, etc, I assume) standards, in variety or quality. The wines are probably more interesting for knowledgeable people.
The baths are amazing. We spent a couple hours sampling the various baths and steam or dry heat rooms at the Szechenyi baths, they're great fun - highly recommended.
We saw a representation of the Tosca by Puccini at the opera house, which was fun. The opera house is gorgeous.
The Terror House museum is powerfully done and very interesting. It's kind of a downer, so I'd suggest going straight to the New York cafe for a piece of cake afterward.
There are some interesting craft and design shops, but I didn't see anything interesting from a clothing standpoint, apart from Vass for shoes. I went there to have my feet measured and place an order for a pair of shoes.
Service levels are excellent, people are generally happy to help tourists and are friendly and welcoming. We once called the wrong hotel and asked them to make a reservation for us to the restaurant above. During the conversation, it became clear we had not called Le Meridien, but the hotel staff still made the reservation for us. That would not happen here in Paris....
