English made pillows and woolen blankets ....Some help

Hi all

Yes, I know it is not clothes, but still, I give it a try.
I am seeking good pillows and also blankets made with good materials, wool, cotton and goose feather.

Some know of any makers, producers in England?

Look at Melin Tregwynt, a Welsh company who make wonderful woolen blankets. They have some wonderful geometric patterns. DDM

Not that it's going to be of much help, but there is an amusing story that George Hamilton tells about Cary Grant. The young actor was invited to CG's home. Grant--having made sixty movies in his career, a number of which he produced in his later years--was wealthy but known to be frugal. He gave Hamilton a grand tour of the house. What surprised Hamilton were the blankets on the beds in the private quarters.

"Cary, what are these striped things?"

"Navy issue blankets. Made of the finest wool from the best mills. You won't find any better. I found them
at a Navy surplus store and grabbed the lot."

Unless you're hellbent on having bedding and towels from Ralph Lauren, Frette or Porthault, all of which
are ungodly overpriced, consider the possibility of exploring unusual sources for your needs. You might find a helluva bargain.

In the age of the adjustable duvet, I am surprised that anuyone bothers with blankets on beds but so far as pillows go, make sure that you look for duck or goose down pillows; not feather and not mixed down and feather. Goose is more expensive (and better) than most duck down, except for eiderdown.

I know it isn't English, but.....Onkaparinga is a famous Australian maker of blankets, many families have a few of these at home. They will last many decades if taken care of properly, I have one over fifty years old and it still has a great handle and smells fresh. http://www.onkaparingaluxury.com.au/?do ... tionId=323

They also make woollen pillows which are hypoallergenic.

Some interesting studies were done recently on people's temperature regulation while asleep, under synthetic quilts, down quilts, woollen quilts, and woollen blankets. Oddly enough, people sleeping under woollen blankets had the best temperature regulation of all, and hence the most restful sleep. Perhaps it is worth the extra five minutes of bed-making in the morning......

Foxford Woollen Mills in Ireland were famed for their wool blankets. Like the Cary Grant quote above they were made with a cream body and a pink or blue stripe. We have some at home that are over 60 years old, bought by my grandmother when she got married before the war. They're a bit thinner now but still great!
