Hello,
I recently came across this bold self-portrait by the notable Swedish painter Anders Zorn. It dates from 1915. I thought the overall effect of his outfit - cut and cloth colour -was highly memorable and rather flattering for his figure type.
See here: http://www.anderszorn.info/portraits/paz85.html
or the attachment below.
How would you describe this type of coat - it's longer than you tend to see in a suit today?
Also, do you like the colour?- it's certainly not for the quiet, retiring type!
What do you think about this look?
The colour looks between cardinal red and panno casentino. It also appears that the image is in a mirror (breast pocket on the right, waistcoat seemingly buttons right over left). I like what I see, it doesn't look to me like the coat is too long for a relatively large man.
Yes, I also think the image is in a mirror, considering that it is a self-portrait, and that the painter needed a mirror to paint it.Costi wrote:The colour looks between cardinal red and panno casentino. True, but not necessarily always the case - even when the painter is the same:marcelo wrote:Yes, I also think the image is in a mirror, considering that it is a self-portrait, and that the painter needed a mirror to paint it.
He might have taken the example of de Toulouse-Lautrec:
How many mirrors did Van Gogh have at home?
This is a sample of male buttoning seen in the mirror.

So here
he must be wearing a ladies' coat
he must be wearing a ladies' coat
Or maybe he had at least two mirrors at home, and used both for that self-portrait.
For complete confusion here is another one:
with the palette in the other hand (and no buttons...)
with the palette in the other hand (and no buttons...)
