Dear Loungers,

I have recently bespoken this brown calf shoe from a local shoe maker. As far as I am aware it was hand-welted. What do you gentlemen think of the outcome? Do the stitches look right to you? Please share your opinions.

Cheers

Too many tags in your first post. Uppercase tags in second post might be the problem.

I am no expert on bespoke shoes but I see nothing to complain about.

How is the fit?

Ther are criticisms that one could make but, first:
1. Do they fit?
2. Are you happy?
3. The cost?
4. Is this calf or kid?
Having said that - the stitching looks machined and, sometimes, it is uneven and the moulding to the last, on the under-side, looks as though it might have been hurried.

Having said that - the stitching looks machined and, sometimes, it is unevenly applied - on the toecap - and the moulding to the last, on the under-side, looks as though it might have been hurried; the heel definitely looks machined and not handmade: it lacks substance and the contours of hand-craft.

Having said that - the stitching looks machined very even and broad (the gimping also bears no relationship to the stitches) and, sometimes, it is unevenly applied - on the toecap - and the moulding to the last, on the under-side, looks as though it might have been hurried; the heel definitely looks machined and not handmade: it lacks the substance and the contours of a hand-crafted shoe.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies!

1. They do fit, no problems there
2. Well to be honest not really, i expected something that looked a bit more luxurious. I was not expecting a G&G model but it was still a bespoke shoe
3. £875
4. I was told it was calf as I asked for calf specifically

Are you sure about it being machine made? He told me he does the stitching by hand. I am now thinking that he took me for a ride?

Cheers

Also what does gimping mean?
Thanks

It's very difficult to say accurately except by seeing the shoes but the soles look machine stitched (the gimps should relate to the stitches and they do not and they are far apart) and the heel does not look as though it has been crafted by hand. The other stitching also looks as though it has come off a machine.

It's the serrating around the edge of the top of the sole/welt.
