Dear Gentlemen,
I need to buy trousers in large quantities before I will leave to South America for a long time. I would like them to meet these conditions:
1. Cotton and corduroy in large variety of colours: white, camel, green etc.
2. I would like them to sit at the hips, not in the waist, flatfronted
3. Modern and slim, yet elegant
4. Since I am tall and thin, they should be about 30' for 34'
Please help, or otherwise I will have to travel around Chile in a tracksuit.
Kind regards,
chatterton

I second the suggestion - Get thee to Cordings!
The trousers are as you describe.
Another alternative is Roderick Charles on Jermyn Street, but if you only have time for one stop, make it Cordings.

I find Brooks Brothers to be a reliable source for high waisted, belted trousers.

Another possibility might be "Bookster", well-spoken-of in these pages and, with a pair of trousers sent to copy, likely to prove a good value.
No need to worry too much about appearances in Chile, I fear, as most men there either copy the standards of the silver screen or simply don't much care about clothing. Or so it seems to me after many years of visiting friends and relatives in the central and southern regions.

Have you tried Bills Khakis?
http://www.billskhakis.com
They are very well made (in Pennsylvania), not particularly expensive, extremely durable, come in a variety of weights, and have five different models, from very full to trim, one of which is bound to suit you. The models never vary. The website is set up for e commerce, so you can order them at your leisure when you get to South America.

I have to say that I think that high waisted trousers do not suit belts.
Hilditch & Key on Jermyn street is also an option.
I bougth there casual trousers when I was in London few months ago, and I am happy with them.
