Buttoning Point

One of the early dictums I read on LL is that the buttoning point of a jacket should be at the natural waist.

Is that actually the case?

I have noticed photos of bespoke jackets made by established tailors where the buttoning point is well below the natural waist.

Isn't the proper buttoning point fluid depending on one's physique?

Hard to say.

In the photo above, Luca has a lower buttoning point while mafoofan has a higher buttoning point at the natural waist.

The presentation of the coats is quite different because of this though I like both.
