To me, a cotton, OTC can hardly be noticed even in the hottest weather. . . .

I've lived both in the subtropics and in near deserts, and I still live in a climate that can be very hot and very humid in summer. Wearing long cotton hose in even the hottest climate doesn't trouble me; but I must add that I prefer warmth to chill.

I agree, if the adequate weight and quality of cotton hose is selected, OTC does not add any warmth in hot weather, except in the imagination of someone who never tried it Wink

I'm not sure in which climates you are all living, but the discomfort I felt was anything but chimerical. Perhaps it is an upshot of being in a hot, humid climate, rather than a dry one?
I will concede to some sensitivity in my skin resulting sometimes in allergies, but this does not prevent me wearing coat and tie all summer. However, the OTCs are too much, less comfortable in fact than wool mid-calf socks.
The upshot of this is that I have a separate summer and winter sock wardrobe evolving, a practice much aided by Marcoliani's tendency to make almost every pattern in both mid-calf and OTC lengths.
