Gents, I need to be in Berlin in a week's time. Can any one reccommend restaurants and/or the best way to spend a free afternoon (if I have one)?
berlin used to be an old haunt of mine, but this was many years ago, so take these recommendations with a grain of salt:
in the west:
the paris bar (on Kantstrasse) is an old stand by - lots of atmosphere and decent food.
for coffee and a light meal, Cafe Einstein used to be enjoyable.
similarly, literaturcafe on fasanenstrasse is very pleasant.
in the east,
there are some pleasant restaurants around kollwitz platz in prenzlauer berg
take the time to see the pergamon museum: spectacular!
music is phenomenal in berlin, so try to get tickets to the symphony or the opera...
