What to get in Paris?

My parents are going to Paris this summer and I want to give them a list of things to get me. I already plan to ask them to go to Carmina and get my shoes's squeak removed, and pick me up a pair of suede half-brogues. I want to send them to Charvet, but I don't need ties, pocket squares, or $500 shirts. What can I ask them to bring back from there? Any other suggestions for things they can bring back (that are worth it)?

I can't tell of need or money is the issue with the products you list as not things you want, but if money is not an issue, and you want something really out of the ordinary from Charvet, as them to bring you back one of their robes. Otherwise, you have mentioned just about everything there that is worth having.

What is Crimson?

Crimson is a boutique that sells English and Scottish-made knitwear in lambs wool and cashmere. The range of colours and styles of jumpers (sweaters) is exceptional. The hosiery range is unmatched in Paris.

Flusser mentions it in "Style and the Man". It is now owned by a delightful American proprietor, Linda Wright.

The boutique is at 8 rue Marbeuf.

This wouldn't fly in my family but perhaps it will in yours -- consider asking them to pick up a mistress for you. Your parents should know your taste by now and who better to have your best interests in mind.

The quality is very good. I bought socks and several sweaters last spring. They've had a lot of wear over the winter.

I am bemused at the idea of picking up British goods in Paris.

I think you would like some Arnys, David ... or perhaps some ties or a waistcoat from A l'Escalier d'Argent.

The slippers at Charvet are very nice and much cheaper in France than at Bergdorf's -- and are in a variety of sizes from XXS to XXL, to which they can recommend a corresponding size.

Charvet also sells beautiful cashmere-silk scarves with motifs including those from the Bayeux Tapestry. Uniquely French.
