Which tailors do you use?
Just curious,
Which tailor (meaning the company or "house") has made the majority of your suits? Which others do you use?

To paraphrase the US Army, isn't that a "majority of one"?aportnoy wrote:Frank Shattuck
I own some suits from Baron Le Chat Mort which outnumber my suits from Poole, and given my needs are met and the dollar is at a nightmarish low (and they haven't billed me for the last suit even though I begged them to a month ago) I think I'll be content for a while.
Majority: Steven Hitchcock. Others: Poole, Anderson and Sheppard, Davies & Son.
I use Edward Sexton in Beauchamp Place. I have had six made this year and every one is magnificent - would never go anywhere else now.

Do you have to buy your own fabric and bring it to him, or did you use his selection?aportnoy wrote:Frank Shattuck

Z, I always us my own fabric and have quite the pipeline of LL fabrics that Frank will be making up in the next 12 months. I'll PM you his contact info.zjpj wrote:Do you have to buy your own fabric and bring it to him, or did you use his selection?aportnoy wrote:Frank Shattuck

Frank is probably the most flexible of all the NY tailors. He does not really have a house style. He has a penchant for "old world" looks, and will often make suggestions based on his assessment of a client's build and style. But I have found him to be almost limitless accomodating. He grumbles sometimes, but it always works out in the end.sam wrote:What is Frank Shattuck's house style?
Frank has most of the basic books, but he keeps them upstate. If you know two or three that you want to peruse, you have to ask him to bring them when he comes to the city. Alternatively, you can find another place to look at them and then write down the number of the one you want. However, it's a bit sticky to ask a tailor if you can thumb through his swatch library so that you choose cloth to order from another tailor. I have been shameless enough to do it once or twice, but it's not for everyone.zjpj wrote:Do you have to buy your own fabric and bring it to him, or did you use his selection?aportnoy wrote:Frank Shattuck
Frank will take a customer's cloth or order it for you. Either way, he does not charge a markup on cloth.
