Do you would them wear to a dark blue suit or is the shoe too informal for a suit?

Will, nice touch - tweed, not worsted. Split toe shoes are not a London or City-English shoe worn with a suit. Put on cords or khakis for a cruise through the London weekend, no problem. On the other side of the channel in France and the Benelux countries, the split toe is seem far more often. Not on banker's feet with pinstripes above, but on the coarser clothes worn within and without the city. A goor key to perpective on such issues is not formal/informal or city/country but texture. The split toes is at home under any textured fabric from flannels to tweeds, twills, and cordourys. Fine worsteds, less so.
As to the popularity of the split-toe blucher or norwegian among the lounge members, I can't say precisely but I do recall more than one member considering a pair og EG Dovers in their top shoe favourites. I've even seen bespoke.
All I can say is "buy-em, wear-em, let-em find their place in your wardrobe".
