Charvet Shirts

I am interested to find out some details about shirts by Charvet:
Can someone please enlighten me as to whether Charvet manufacture their cloth (if so, where is it made - French mill? Swiss mill? Italian mill?) or purchase their cloth.

I believe that charvet purchases cloth, although I've yet to hear an admission
about where it's purchased.
I'll see if I can find out more.

As a postscript to Michael's wonderful. evocative thread on Charvet (as linked above), I dare to add that I have seen a few bolts marked "D&J Anderson". Charvet uses good fabrics from a variety of suppliers. I once asked if they still use any fabrics from Colban, who was a fabric supplier to Charvet prior to acquiring it at the request of De Gaulle when the firm was up for sale over 40 years ago. They said they do use some Colban fabrics, and that generally the individual provenance of their fabrics is (said tongue-in-cheek) "top secret". I've noticed they have a lot of Swiss fabrics and a wonderful zephyr cotton is being adjusted to fit my new cufflinks at this moment.

PS: Where is acornfabrics man to chime in?

rjman, I am also having a shirt made by Charvet in a zephyr cotton. Do you know if zephyr is a generic term (like voile) or is it the Acorn fabric of the same name? I had a look at the Acorn swatch card today, and their zephyr seems similar to the Charvet fabric, but I am relying on my memory.

I imagine that they'll do any sort of collar and cuffs that you want when you go bespoke.

RTW, their patch-fused collar is their trademark of sorts - at least for the US market.

In a quick video podcast on Men.Style.Com, Monsieur Colban does a quick walk through what makes Charvet shirts different, and he expressly notes 'everything is non-fused. You cannot make a beautiful product fused - it will not last."

Find the video by searching the iTunes store for men.style.com - there are a series of shop tours in London and Paris, each about 3 mins long, all free (the podcast, not the items in the stores, that is!)

I confess to never having bought a Charvet shirt because of the, to me, rather unpleasantly stiff interlining they use in the RTW. It feels fused even though it may not be. Presumably this is overcome in their bespoke offerings where I presume a variety of interlinings are offered.
