That is one of my least favorite Bond films too!

I wonder what differences there are, if any, between the Filson Mackinaw and the Alden Giacca Camicia?

And the difference between a baseball jacket and a Barracuda jacket?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Bresch , if I understand the above correctly, the garment is something in between a shirt and a canvassed jacket and that neither a shirtmaker nor a tailor really want the assignment at any price. If so, have you tried The Mackintosh Shop in the Burlington Arcade in London? They have a bespoke /MTM approach to their fabrics and models. Perhaps you could get them to run up a Sahariana to your thinking?

I visited the shop in March and they fit a marvelous overcoat for my wife. She discussed a couple of bespoke ideas but chose their working an overcoat that they had in stock. From the types of fabrics that they deploy, they would not have any trouble working with the fabrics you are considering.

Perhaps we can induce a couple of our London based brothers to pull a preliminary recce' on your behalf. Any takers?

Is this located above the Globe Trotter luggage shop???

I will be there in June, and in fact have a piece of Globe Trotter luggage being made one-off for my wife. I get them thru Molton Brown, for a variety of reasons, but I digress. Who or what is the MacKintosh shop? MacKintosh's only???? Are they makers or 'retailers?'

I do not think this is a realistic prospect. What I need is a shirtmaker who has made these before.

Have a look at http://www.hollandandholland.com.

Amongst all those fashion forward interpretations which I assume are beloved by urban warriors (aka fashionistas) there is at least one model that should come close to what you need.

Or you can chose something in camouflage, or maybe even the white with dark leather straps.

Or call whoever these days organises big game hunting: they must be able to point you in the direction of whoever tailors for their billionaire clients.

I think that is a departure from what we were really talking about, the giacca camicia. It may have been inspired by desert wear, but its purpose is comfort and versatility when a sportsjacket is not needed.

In that case, this may be a comfortable cross between a shirt and a jacket:

And let's not forget the indispensable accessory:

More seriously, Michael's going to kill me but I think Arnys has variants on what you want in their website catalog. At the very least, you can get a pciture to show someone.

I rather think Michel Lonsdale's giacca camicia would be an ideal choice for you. All of these men were freethinking international entrepreneurs whose lifestyles required a garment of some presence with allowances for mobility and flexibility, such as for grabbing one's gun or activating one's death ray.

David,

When I am in London next month I'll stop into Holland and Holland, as well as Purdy and see if they have any hardcopy catalogs for you. I would agree, the safari jackets are not really what you have in mind, however. What would be nice to know is who makes these things for the 'retailers.'

Purdey's and Holland's catalogues are available on line, so I don't need those. And whoever recommended Holland, bravo, because though I looked at their previous collection and it had no shirt jackets, now that is almost all they are selling! RJMan must be right, they are in this season or something. Several of our comrades have fallen trying to find this garment, I think someone should kick Bugelli in the butt and get him to send us all fabric samples and pictures and start taking orders. Either that, or Alden has to cough up the artisan he knows who specialized in the capalbio, I am sure he makes the giacca camicias too (or perhaps Alden knows someone who specializes in that too). Why do I envision Alden stroking a white cat watching our pathetic efforts from afar and laughing sardonically....

There is yet another bespoke gunmaker around the corner from the Connaught, on Mount Street, half the distance to Purdy's. They never seem to be open for some reason. But I will stop in as well. The Holland and Holland clothing is not very 'classic' in my opinion. I do not think Bugelli is equipped to do business in the manner you expect, having been there. Nor, do I think he would be interested in the shirt/jac. More and more, I am beginning to understand that this type of thing is really only suited to RTW, machine made, in limited quantities.
