I just received a suit that I ordered from http://www.savvyrow.co.uk. It's a three piece vintage Gieves from 1962 in fantastic condition; I doubt it has been worn since it left the shop. The original commissioner was a Mr. A.R. Chapman.
You can see photos here: http://www.savvyrow.co.uk/products/stun ... e-suit-36r <--- EDIT: Pictures removed. I will post new ones sometime in the near future.
Savvy Row is in my view a great way to obtain garments of quite reasonable quality when bespoke is out of reach. In addition, their service is great and delivery times fast.
I need to take the suit to my local tailor for alterations, of course, but it's mostly the trousers that needs attention. I think the fit of the jacket is quite good and although it's more padded than what I would like if I commissioned a suit myself, it actually suits me and it's not obstructive or overly cumbersome.
As to the quality of the garment, I am quite inexperienced, but it seems solid enough. The cloth is especially nice; sturdy but with a fine drape.
Anyway, the purpose of this post was to inquire if anyone had any knowledge on the work of Gieves in the 60-ies? Good, bad, informative; anything.
And as I was taking up topic-space anyway, I wanted to ask if anyone knows of a good European supplier of garment bags (for closet hanging), preferably cotton or linen ones?
Cheers.

I found this bag from Pakeman to be quite good. The cotton is very soft, yet thick.J.S. Groot wrote:And as I was taking up topic-space anyway, I wanted to ask if anyone knows of a good European supplier of garment bags (for closet hanging), preferably cotton or linen ones?
Andrey
Link goes to home page not garment - no obvious trail to it even following 'suits'.

Ah. They have obviously removed the page, since the suit is sold. Silly of me. I will post photos after my trip to the tailor.
