The "Bengal" boot by JM Weston

Pierre-Paul Hofflin of Talon Rouge in Paris introduced to a JM Weston boot I did not know about...it is called the "Bengal." The boot has a strong canvas upper and an oil rich leather bottom. It is available with a rubber or leather sole.

The boot can be ordered as an MTM creation where the colors can be modified and the circumference of the upper modified to fit your calf. There is a 3 month delay for special orders. Figure a thousand euros more or less for this very special product.

It looks very much like a Newmarket boot except that it isn't quite as high, so, maybe it is a field boot?

They are intended as a summer equestrian boot. They also come with a rubber sole that make them suitable for country walks, hunting, etc. I see them as a very elegant replacement for the traditional (and not so elegant) Wellie boot. The leather used in the Bengal boot is very oil rich to repel water. Pierre-Paul told me he has worn his in frightful weather including into muddy bogs. His pair is fifteen years old and looks great (given the special TLC they receive.)

Wellies are great in the deep mud and wet, but they heat your feet and the fit is never that good.

Mine will be heading down to Italy right away!

As I looked through some of the AA illustrations, I found the Bengal boot with a cream canvas upper in this equestrian pose. As an aside, the two coats in this picture are very good looking and potential Cloth Club subscriptions.
