Daring Adventurers Redux

I most enjoyed reading the prior series of posts about "Daring Adventurers" and thought I'd suggest the following for reading along similar lines:

Patrick Leigh Fermor: The books of his that I've read concern his early travels from the hook of Holland to the Iron Gates, but I've also enjoyed an anthology of his writing that covers, among other things, his Second World War service with partisans on Crete -- during which he helped abduct a German general. I've always enjoyed his writing, and I wish that I'd thought to undertake travels like his when I as 18. The books about his early travels are "A Time of Gifts" and "From the Woods to the Water," and the anthology is "Words of Mercury."

Fitzroy Maclean: I've read only "Eastern Approaches," which is a fascinating account of his travels (especially in Russian and other Soviet Republics) with the British foreign service before the Second World War, as well as his service with the fledgling SAS in North Africa and his work with Jugoslav partisans during the war.

Simon Murray: Before his career in finance and South Pole trek (which he undertook at 63), he served with the French Foreign Legion's Second Parachute Regiment. His book "Legionnaire" is a fun read.

My father, as part of the partisan guerilla forces, served with Patrick Leigh Fermor during the Battle of Crete. They still communicate. I hope to be able to meet him during next Summer's visit.
