Last-minute sartorial checkup

I'm going to my grandparents' 50th anniversary party. A big deal and all. I leave for Montréal next Thursday.

I've decided to wear this double breasted suit, but still not sure what tie. While this tie has a blue background, I think it may be suitable against the darker navy due to the contrast in shades plus the other colours.



Please ignore the OCBD (I'm getting a white spread collar shirt soon) and tile work in the background.

Other candidates include charcoal solid repp silk, black solid repp silk, black silk knit, dark red grenadine-ish (politician?). I'll get pictures if requested. Most of my repp-stripe ones are too close in base colour or comically narrow compared to the wider lapels.

Suggestions and constructive criticism more than welcome.

The colours are not too clearly distinguishable on my screen, there is a yellowish cast over the entire photograph. If I understand correctly, the suit is a dark navy chalkstripe (white, grey?). If so, while the tie in the picture is very handsome in itself, I would go for a much lighter shade (of blue or, better, a different colour altogether) with a (small) repetitive pattern, similar to the one you have chosen. Particularly on such a merry occasion, a dark background tie seems a bit too somber, even if the red and yellow are vibrant. Also, a white linen pocket square in a straight fold would make a good point of contrast on your coat and recall the white of the shirt.

Jovan, looks great, a bit somber but well balanced. If the party is in the evening, a gray suit with a white shirt always works. Snap some linen in your breast pocket, open a bottle of champagne, forget about your clothes and celebrate with your family. You'll look great in all the pictures and your grandmother will appreciate that you wore a suit. DDM
