Nubuck
Can anyone explain what this is and what its properties are? I am thinking of springing for the CJ Cheldon, which is a chasse available in brown nubuck.
I believe (but am prepared to be corrected) that Nubuk is a type of suede that has been produced by sanding down the grain side to obtain a very smooth and fine nap. It refers usually to cow or calf hides.
Somewhere at the back of my mind there is a connection between zebu (an African and South Asian type of water buffallo) and nubuk, but I have not been able to substantiate that. I would assume that the skins of the tough little zebu would be extremely durable, in the same way that African goatskin used for morocco leather is of exceptional quality, although difficult to process.
