It's been a number of years since I had some MTM suits made at BB here in Chicago. I've since grown a little (hopefully in style and not just size) and am thinking of going Bespoke.
Do any forum members have any experience with either Balani clothiers or Richard Bennett or can anyone recommend good bespoke tailor (suits, jackets, pants, coats,) here in Chicago.
MANY thanks for your help.

Why not try Oxxford? They're expensive but very good -- and their workrooms are right in Chicago.

I'm not a customer of either tailor but have heard positive things about Pucci and Chris Despos.

I recently met Chris Despos briefly at Manton's book launch.
Certainly what he was wearing looked both very nice and very well done.
He appears to a man of rather good taste!
It would certainly be worth a look.

I also met Chris Despos at the book signing. He is a lovely gentleman. Very well dressed.

Mr. Venanzi gives Mr. Despos his highest recommendation. He said that "Chris is the best needleman in the USA."

I would also consider Oxxford. If you want I can arrange an introduction to Mike Cohen, Oxxford's CEO. I feel that Oxxford's garments are superb.

Good luck.

Chris is a great tailor and an even better person. You will have a very enjoyable experience if you visit him. Anytime I have worn Chris work it has been complimented. These compliments take two forms: from people in the trade and from those who normally don't notice my suits. If you do visit, be sure to call ahead and schedule an appointment.

Good luck in whatever you choose, and please take time to enjoy the experience. In my more reflective moments, I think there is something very human about taking one thing - cloth from a bolt -- and then through manipulation, ingenuity and skill, turning it into something else that has both utility and beauty.

Thank you all for your input. I think I'll give Chris a call in the near future!
