Elusive French shirtmaker

This is a plea for help.

Early this year, while browsing the 'Net, I came across the website of a French shirtmaker; the initial webpage showed a glorious blue voile (I think) shirt with exceptionally handsome collar, cuffs, and pocket. I thought I marked the page for future visits.

I now want to print the web out, to take to a shirtmaker as visible description of a shirt I'd like him to make for me. But I can't find either the page or my "bookmark", apparently not made! I thought I dimly remembered that the website was that of Lanvin, but a quick perusal of that 'site yields nothing.

Can anyone suggest the website or the shirtmaker? I'd be most grateful.

Thanks, Eden; I did look at Liste Rouge. Unfortunately, that wasn't the 'site.

So the search continues. Perhaps it would be easiest to ask the assembled membership if they could note which French shirtmakers have websites; the particular one I seek offers chiefly ready-made shirts but (I think I remember) also cuts a few to measure.

Here is a list of French makers with a copy of their homepages. You will see that Tailormail had a blue shirt on its homepage previously.

I'd like to suggest a technological approach to finding your site. Have a look in your browser's history file. Depending on your history settings, the site might still be there.

If you're using IE, click on History on the tool bar. If you don't see "History" you might see
">>" indicating more choices - a left click there should show "History." In Netscape/Mozilla, select "Go" and History should appear as one of the choices. You can expand the various categories and see if your history goes back far enough to help.

If you are using IE, you can also try looking at "Temporary Internet files" by selecting "Tools->Internet Options." The "General" tab should be selected; then select "Settings" for the Temporary Internet Files section. On the box that comes up, select "View Files." The results can be sorted by clicking on a column heading. Given that you have an image in mind, I'd concentrate on file types of jpg (first) then gif, around the date you think you visited the site....the names are likely to be meaningless, so you'll probably have to click on them individually to see them in a browser window. Note - if you find it here, print it immediately! Going to the site is of course OK, but there's no guarantee the image would still be there. Not sure of how to do this if you are using Netscape/Mozilla.

You could also use the "Find files" feature of your PC (assuming windows) and search on the hard drive for a phrase you remember on that site - that could lead you to the correct temporary file...but text searches are problematic because a lot of text on websites are actually part of graohic images and not text in the usual sense.

The settings for history and temporary internet files are independent, so if searching through history doesn't give you your site, it's still worth looking at the temporary internet files.

The settings for history and temporary internet file space are there to help your system from keeping too many files stored on your hard drive for a long period of time, so it is entirely possible those for your elusive site have been automatically deleted (as would also be the case if you regularly clear history or cleanup the temporary files manually).

Apologies to LL members for digressing from sartorial arts and getting into browser and PC-speak, especially the details if those are obvious to you.
