Dear All

In the decades since the 1950-60s it is I think indisputable (sadly) that the number of SR firms has greatly reduced.
This is due (amongst other things) to:
1. retiral of one-man cutter/proprietors.
2. purchase/acquisition by competitors.
3. a sadly reduced demand for the SR product (linked to the quality [?]and availability of rival,non-bespoke products).

With this in mind, I took a quick look at the 1988 directory of SR firms at the back of Richard Walker's SR book, and noted that many of these no longer seemed to be trading (see list below).
My assumption (and hope) is that many of these will have been absorbed into existing/current firms (ie. at the very least the client patterns and address details will have been bought up....so that some continuity of service is preserved).

Question: I wondered if any fellow Loungers had knowledge of which current SR firms might have absorbed the undernoted "casualties"?

James Bone and Stovel & Mason were absorbed into Davies & Son.

It is my understanding that Mr. Bone was a lone cutter who shared space in Davies's premises.
