Below is a dress code policy from a university club in New York City.
Do you think that this is reasonable?
What other dress code policies are you aware of elsewhere ?
Dress Code Policy: Business casual dress is required in all public rooms
except for the athletic facilities at all times. Denim that is neat,
clean, and in good repair is acceptable in the Library and Grill Room at
all times as well as the Roof Dining Room throughout the summer.
NOT PERMITTED are shorts, tee shirts, casual sandals, athletic wear,
sneakers, caps, and torn, provocative, or revealing clothing.
Dress Codes
Sounds reasonable to me, but I think dress codes should be more prevalent!
Gstaad Palace Hotel:
Dress code
From 7pm men are asked to wear a jacket in Le Grill and Veranda section of Le Grand Restaurant. Ripped jeans, t-shirts, caps and baseball caps are also not permitted in the restaurants and bars in the evening.

That specific dress code seems pretty reasonable to me (rather low level of required formality) and standard nowadays for social clubs on the east coast of the US. When I joined my club, 31 years ago, jacket and tie were required for dining at the main room. Necktie is no longer mandatory (although most of the over 75 crowd still fully adheres voluntarily). The code had deletions and addenda according with the times, trends and fashion, many of them very arbitrary or restrictive (for instance: hats have to be worn with the visor forward). At present, our general policy is "attire should be tasteful and reflective of the Club’s conservative traditions" (sic). Minimum dress code for public social areas at the main building inside or outside is defined as wearing a jacket, a collared shirt and long pants. Bermudas are permitted and jackets are not required between Memorial and Labor Day. No code for women (save for a mention that they should dress at a ladies' s equivalent) who wear whatever-whenever, but it's fair to say that they tend to dress up much more than gentlemen. At the winter center and bowling alley, casual attire -including jeans- is permitted, but jeans are not for playing golf. Tennis whites have to have minimal color accents.
...or instance: hats have to be worn with the visor forward)
Pet hate: men who wear hats indoors.
I must be getting old, but I thought everyone knew that it is generally rude for men to wear hats indoors.
