One can also support manufacturers who offer repair and refurbishing services. My Barbour Berwick tweed shooting coat has had the worn cuffs turned and re-hemmed (fortunately they were just long enough) and the rear skirt seam restitched where it had worn through. And Barbour didn't charge me for either repair! It's now on its eleventh year of hard use, and will probably get me through another season before being demoted to wearing for rough chores only . . . .

Several of my well-made sweaters (Pringle lambswool, various shetlands, etc.) are 30+ years old and still look great. Being a good steward of possessions is not only green but intrinsically satisfying.
