Granada Productions were onto a good thing in the early 1980s. I assume virtually everyone on this forum will have seen the Brideshead Revisited series, which was a tour-de-force of authentic interiors and fashion from about 1922 to 1944. Must less well known, is their adaptation of A Good Solidier by Ford Madox Ford. This is every bit as good. Jeremy Brett is at his best as Edward Ashburnham, and Susan Fleetwood's performance as Leonora Ashburnham is sublime. As an accurate portrayal of mid 1900s fashion, it's hard to think of anything equal to it. Particular mention should be made of Edward Ashburnham's evening tailcoat, his summer wardrobe, which includes white flannel trousers and waistcoat worn with a blue blazer, and the Norfolk jacket suits at the end. For plenty of sartorial inspiration, and a snapshot of pre-war life rendered with apparently great attention to detail:
