Duty free cigars

I'm basically a lifelong non-smoker except strangely I do enjoy the very occasional cigar.

For my extremely modest needs I've found buying online from reputable dealers such as JJ Fox or C.Gars Ltd ideal as a well conditioned example of whatever cigar I fancy trying arrives in a sealed container within a day or two. Convenient though this is it would be nice to have a few to hand to use when the fancy strikes without having to plan in advance so I'm considering buying the odd box now & again to build up some sort of a stock (even if most of it gets smoked by friends).

A question for regular smokers:

As a UK resident there's a certain financial advantage to buying cigars from the humidors of airport duty free shops but are there any disadvantages as regards quality, their conditions of storage etc?

Dear Russell,

the short answer is no, go for it. These shops in the bigger airports are supplied by the big cigar merchants who make sure the storage conditions are good.

The only thing missing in the airport duty free shops is knowledgeable staff, which is why I prefer to buy cigars in a shop where I know the owner who knows my passion for maduros

I normally transit through Zurich or Frankfurt so I’ll see what’s on offer.

The couple of cigars I have for over Christmas & the New Year are both maduro’s. A Cohiba maduro 5 Magicos & the smaller maduro 5 Secretos.
