Living in a hot climate (summer 110°/45° at peaks), I've had my last two suit jackets buggy-lined with the lining finishing at the armpit. There seems to be a general reluctance to do so on account of the shirt sleeves not moving freely within the coat. This I have not found to be an issue, and the jacket is cooler and lighter as a result.
I don't bother with functional sleeve-buttons, and should say that I usually get the Dyson onto the seams to remove lint (visible here, alas). The stitching to secure the cuff is not noticeable from the outside. I've had the same done with a light-weight Super 120 Worsted from the H&S stable, with similarly good results for comfort. (See below for images).
For what it's worth.
Hot climes, no arms.

I didn't realize herringbone was possible in linen.
The poor colour rendering of my photography doesn't make it apparent, but this is "Midnight", and I've got some slacks made from "Heather Mix". Lovely stuff.
