When Carlo Ponti and Sophia Loren married in 1957, he promised her "the most beautiful house in the world." After seven years of marriage, he delivered, and here the couple seem truly at home. In June 1964, photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt visited Loren and husband at their 50-room villa in Marino, near Rome. Interior decorator Ezio Altieri and architect and landscape gardener Imerio Maffeis assisted the pair with the renovation of the villa.

Many Thanks Daedalus:
These are wonderful photos.
An elegant woman indeed, and still very much is.
