Gents, I need your advice on finding a new travel bag.

This is what I'm looking for: i) soft, ii) able to carry on board airline, iii) lightweight, iv) no wheels, v) all leather preferred, vi)practicality/value not a big issue.

This is going to be my main piece of luggage, even for longer trips: 1-2 weeks. I am planning to travel lightly. What doesn't fit, doesn't go.

Any fabulous bags out there?

If you are on the road with this for two weeks, it needs to be bulletproof. A broken zipper a few days into a trip will make life very awkward.

I have a Filson Pullman bag made of canvas and leather, it is very well made and good looking, and is ideal for the use you are talking about.

They also make a large carry-on which is useful also.

If you are having a bag made, ensure that either it has very heavy duty zips, or without zips altogether. Zips are always the first thing to go. A saddler is often the best craftsman to approach as they are dedicated to making kit that lasts.

Look at Glaser Designs in San Francisco. Excellent quality and service.

I have had great service from Mullholland Brothers products (http://shopmulholland.com/catalog.htm?Line=Carryon) as well as Tusting carry alls. While leather looks fantastic, lasts long and is satisfying to care for, new synthetics are "bullet proof" and much lighter (a major consideration for me).

+1 for Glaser Designs. Their square duffle should fit your needs perfectly:

Their normal carry on is like the square duffle but with a few more features:

I do like the Glaser. I don't care for the logo. But since this looks like an artisanal shop, I suppose that they could make a bag without logo; and also customise the color?

I had been thinking of a 'round' duffle but think the square duffle is probably the better design for easy accessibility. It was always a hassle to get to stuff at the the bottom of my round duffle without first taking everything above out.

Anything out there interesting from Hermes, Goyard, etc.? Is 22" length now the max. for carry on?
