Sir,

As a foundation for supplemental reading, what do you recommend as primary reading?

Regards,

Dear Alan,

You need not refer to em as Sir :) even though I appreciate the proper formality.

Regarding primary reading, Alden has posted many great resources over the course of years on this forum about understanding elegance. I personally have felt that a study of classic figures of Dandy-ism (late 18th to late 19th ce) is necessary as well in understanding the overall approach to sartorial matters in terms of elegance through subtlety and understatement as opposed to flash and overstatement. Beyond that it really boils down to what your particular preferences are. Naturally, it cannot all be historical as that will again create a very fragmented or archaic.

May sound like an incomplete and rather generic response but honestly there are no short specific answers unless you are talking of a specific criteria, like say resort wear or footwear or neckwear etc.

apologies for the grammatical and other formatting errors in the post above. I hastily pressed submit and realized the mistakes. Not sure how to edit my own posts.

Don't feel bad Etutee, we're humans and we make mistakes. :)

I've always enjoyed your post and the hard work and passion you've put into them.
