If you can stand being the other side of Picadilly, try The Stafford in St. James Place. Nothing institutional in any way shape or form.

I agree with DD M about the Stafford, one of the last of a breed.
You could suffer the institutional and be even closer to your tailor at the Westbury.

I recieved a nice brochure last night from the Connaught, touting their recent redo.
Must say, it looks quite nice. The hotel was in bad need of a refurbishment [esp. in the public areas], getting a little threadbare in my opinion. The service never suffered.
Goes to show in order to keep traditions alive, one must innovate from time to time.

I think Claridges should be next on the refurbishment. I got my Connaught brochure today. I think the last several owners have contributed to the decline in service. No amount of refurbishment can replace an inexperienced staff. We live in an age of diminished expectations, or at least I seem to. Parallels to SR?
