Dear Sam,
A birdseye is at an advantage in a medium to dark gray where the general color is the result of the contrasting combination of what is perceived as lighter grey "birdeyes" on darker gray background. If you want charcoal, I suggest you consider a pinhead pattern instead.

and you'll see that these pictures posted on the thread don't do justice to the beautiful cloths they truly are.
In real life, the pinhead dots are much more subtle than in the photos and they are only appreciated up-close. I think it's an ideal pattern for a conservative (with a certain flair) dark grey or charcoal suit when you want the texture do the talking.
