Uppercase - William - Our house is on quite a small plot on the seafront and there are seasonal ferocious winds off the sea. There are resistant plants and trees infront and a courtyard at the back; where I have found a very narrow corridor in which to grow roses successfully! This is why we want to build a garden away from the sea but we have not started it. However, we definitely want ordered, lawned areas giving way to shrubs, then parkland, then woodland and then (as it is here), more or less jungle.

I am not sure I am understanding you correctly but what I think you are saying is that you are starting a completely new garden on a separate plot by another house not close to the sea.
Is it a chicken / egg question? Will you have an idea of the house and garden and look for a place that suits your plan or will you find a house and land and then start planing the garden? I think the second is always easier in terms of buying and planning as starting with a blank sheet of 3D paper tests the wits of even the best designer.

William - The idea is to find a separate plot of land a little way inland for the garden (maybe atound the Saquarema lagoon), and install a summer house, rather than a residential house (as we do not want to live away from the ocean). Then we will plan and lay the garden, splitting it into productive areas; ornamental areas and then fading it out into shrubberies, parkland and then woods. There are quite strict laws here that preserve the Atlantic forests and natural flora so the real challenge is to find an area that is already clear, within a forest. We did find somewehere that was nearly ideal (on a cliff over the lagoon), in about six acres, with some established fruit and ornamental trees (even a cinnamon tree) and with a delightful, winding path down to a lagoon beach. However, there was a large house there (a real money-pit) that also needed renovation and, besides that, before we started further enquiries, following a viewing, it was sold - and for a song too! Therefore the quest continues...

We have possibly found the spot: it is just under fifty acres in the mountains between the Sleepy Hollow and RdeJ, with twelve acres of banana plantation and a tropical orchard, as well as two streams and a rustic house. I am just going to arrange an appointment to view...
