Have many of you had vaccinations? I suppose we should make sure our tailors get their jabs so they can travel again!

My wife and I received our second Moderna shots on April 23. The light at the end of the tunnel is very clearly daylight. We hope to be in London in July and again in late November. Perhaps France or Italy in September, too.

I had a jacket made by Steed last year (from the Ultimate Sage Tweed) via a Zoom fitting that went extremely well. I had the Wabi-Sabi, the grey reverse stripe, the Agnelli flannel, the Agnelli glen check, and maybe other stuff made up by Hemrajani. Steed and I go back a long way, which is why I think the zoom fitting process worked so well. Hemrajani has made so many things for me by now that we go straight to finish. There are photographs of all these things in the "Great Clothes" thread so you can judge for yourself how well things turned out.

I have a couple of things on hold at Cad & The Dandy (including a jacket from Alden gunclub #9), and Caroline Andrew in London. I have a jacket that needs serious work at Steven Hitchcock that predates the pandemic by a considerable while. I'd like to get to Edward Sexton for a tweak to my cream flannel DB by him. I hope to restart or resume all of these things this year.

In non-London Lounge news, I'm kicking over the black tie apple cart and, inspired by a vintage Esquire illustration, I'm having a pair of ivory formal trousers made up and a velvet double-breasted dinner jacket in Holland & Sherry's "mustard" color made up to go with the trousers, although it will work equally well with black or midnight trousers. Too much time on my hands! Too many "Formal Fridays"!

Dear all,

I have had one online fitting with my bespoke shirt maker on things I want changed in my shirts and was generally extremely happy with how it went. The only thing he couldn’t change was balance which he told me he has to observe in person. Because of this I made an appointment with him in May when I will hopefully travel to Naples for less than 48h so that I don’t need to quarantine. I have had no suits or trousers made in this time.

But generally I took a different approach. I realized it will be a great struggle to have clothes made so I decided to focus on cloth for the time being. All funds that I would have allocated to bespoke tailoring, I spent on cloths which has resulted in me having enough cloth easily for my next 10-15 years especially for sports coats. Now, given that I am young, that doesn’t worry me too much as I hope to build a wardrobe that will last me a lifetime. Worst case scenario, I have lost some money when I was in my twenties for cloth ( I have quite a bit of unfunded liabilities). At least it’s a hobby I absolutely adore (I think I am
more passionate for the cloth than the tailoring).
The second thing I focused on was my tastes and knowledge on tailoring and I believe I am in a much better position to go and pay the ludicrous SR prices today than I was a year ago. I have decided on the one tailor I will go to for my suitsI studied all the clothes I have had made, what I like and dislike.

I have an existing pattern for trousers -- which is spot on! -- but got so much new weight (blame the lockdown, the only reason! ), that it had to be changed for sure.

I decided to try a zoom fitting -- the decision in many ways inspired by "support your tailor during the difficult times!" messages here at LL.

A parcel arrived, with basted trousers



and a chalk + pins set



We had a zoom fitting, with my wife acting as a camera man (this is her hand holding a phone with John Kent speaking)



The fitting turned out to be a very emotional event for both of us... my wife literally cried a little to see John after all the years (after a long pause, we planned our next trip to London to happen in April 2020... ha-ha-ha... )

Amazingly, chalk + pins got no use at all! -- John and Terry (Haste, who did the fitting together with John) said they actually don't need them and can judge all the distances by themselves. Is this a show of force or overconfidence?! We'll see -- the finished trousers just arrived.

sent some Lumb's Golden Bale wool and David Evans madder silk to my tailor so that I have something to look forward to when I travel again.
