Hi Hectorm,
Yes, I did visit the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto but was not able to get any information on English Sandals.

It is interesting that very similar sandals have been worn in Bulgaria (tsarvuli) and Romania (opinci) for hundreds of years and are still worn by both men and women as part of folkloric costumes. We have beren trying to make the connection between these and the UK.

Another possibility is the "back to nature" movement of the late 1800s where going barefoot and wearing sandals was recommended. Anyone have any leads on this? Thanks.
