I suppose that we all have a suit silhouette which we admire from the past.

Why not post a photo of your ideal...?

I have 2 or 3 which resonate with me, but to start, the first being this DB on Cristobal Balenciaga. (Sorry, don’t know how to post images directly in this post)

I’m crazy about the life and movement of the coat.
To me, it is ideal.

And yours?

The second silhouette I admire, well, I can’t find the photo....but it was of Clark Gable with his dog in an odd jacket and full cut trousers. Really fantastic.

But here are a few photos of CG, particularly the 1934 photo, which are just outstanding.
Much of what he wore, and how he wore it, is fabulous.
The full, weighty, generous silhouettes. I just wish someone could cut in that manner today.

I suppose this Cary Grant suit is on everyone’s top 3.

I believe it is a 1959 suit.

So stop right there... nothing chronologically, after this silhouette is worth considering, IMO.

But the suit itself is unremarkable, unlike Clark’s and Balenciaga’s above which are clearly from a different era and remarkable in form and proportion ; Grants - just nicely symmetrical, easy in fit, monochrome in color and tone.

But here, Grant’s easy carriage and presence makes the suit, light grey on grey and white.

How simple.

And that’s it for my top 3 silhouettes. I think each from a different decade.

Clark Gabke was modeled after The Manassa Mauler....the rugged and very dangerous Jack Dempsey. The man is the silhouette. Always great posts upper

No credit needed.
It’s all on the Internet.
Search Jack Dempsey.
Those men could dress, hey??!!

(I can’t figure out how those mugs can look like Hollywood stars!! But they do.
Someone tell me what it is. Is it their tailor?? I don’t know. But their tailor doesn’t dress them every morning....something has happened culturally in the intervening years until today. Tell me. )
