I heartily second this suggestion. Molloy makes a good navy Donegal that is most appealing.
I wasn't aware that Molloy makes a navy tweed, at least it's not in their sample book or Flickr album. Would you happen to have the reference no and perhaps a photo?

I love Molloy (third tweed jacket in the making) and would die to get my hands on a navy version :)

I suspect the nearest to a navy that the Molloy's stock is the #0702 80 herringbone. Having handled samples I've agree the plain blues on offer aren't navy; there's an indigo or denim shade and a brighter blue. Both are attractive, but harder to wear than navy.

If a Donegal is the route to go I would suggest dropping Kevin and Howlin an email asking for samples. When I visited last October they had piles of blue shades on offer.

For some reason I thought there were a lot of W. Bill patterns in navy. Maybe they've run out.

Thanks. I actually have a jacket in the #0702 80, and it's definitly more greyish blue.

I visited them last year, but understood that their only available Donegal tweed are the same as in the sample book. I picked up #0701 06 and 122 which are both lovely.

A true navy Molloy Donegal would be even better! I will send them an email.

Given the Donegal construction (heathered base yarns plus flecks and slubs) the final result -lighter and brighter in shade- can never be navy blue, and looking for it in Molloy & Sons is a bit misguided. If you embrace that, and still want to go the Donegal way, a beautiful dark blue jacketing is the Porter & Harding lighter weight Thornproof.

Slh,
The website, Yorkshire Fabrics Limited, might be of help. Many blue tweeds (and green). Prices seem quite reasonable. They will send samples for only 2.5 per.

I am having a length of Molloy made up now. I haven't seen it since February and before that not since October, so my memory of the exact shade is not great. However, my understanding is that the navy color is or was not a standard Molloy color and that this length was part of a custom run. When I get the jacket, though, I will post a picture. I expect to see it in London in about ten days. I don't know if it will be ready at that time or not.
