Most of my sports coats are navy/blue (solid or small checks) or grey (subtle checks or plaid). I wear them with grey worsted/flannel pants, not jeans. What types of shoes would you recommend? And what colors?

Internet wisdom says dark brown or oxblood, but with very cool colors like this you could go to black. The exact style I'd leave to the texture of the cloth and the time of day or formality of the event. There are a lot of correct choices.

I think shoe choice with these coats will be driven by the occasion. I have many shades of brown suede from snuff to espresso, in styles from tassell loafer to fully brogued lace up. These add variety and, I think, varying degrees of formality to my outfit.

A blue blazer with grey flannels it's a pretty informal outfit meant mainly for the outdoors. Brown shoes on the darker side (leather or suede) would be the most appropriate IMO. Sometimes I wear that combination to the office with a necktie, and on those occasions I tend to wearing it with black laced shoes, though. Oxblood shoes would also be a good compromise.
