For some reason, and feel free to add something, I think the squared toe of the U-last (and the Villiers) achieves the "town boot" look best.

I think both square-toed boots and round-toed boots can be used as town-boots if properly configured. Here is a Shannon on the 82 last:

I can't edit my posts, but the only thing I would change on the above Shanonns are the rings on the eyelets.

A C&J special order starts at 525 pounds. This is utterly ridiculous given that Green is better and cheaper.

That price is so high that C&J clearly want those who are considering special orders to go away. I sometimes wonder if they would know what to do if a customer actually wanted to order despite the ridiculous price.

I would guess over 350 pounds.

A little high. The price list that came with my C&J catalogue had Villiers at £330. Subtracting 14.89% for VAT and adding £30 for shipping, and you come up with a final price of £310.86. Don't ask me why it's not much more expensive than most Handgrade shoe models. It just isn't.

The C&J boot only comes in brown. The Burlington Arcade shop has to order it in most sizes anyway, but the GBP 330 price is correct, at least was when I last looked at them in the summer.

If brown is acceptable, the discontinued JL model will be much more elegant. Try calling JL in Paris and see what they may have left. The price in the sale in June was about EUR 650 (about a third off the original cost). I cannot recall seeing that model in Jermyn Street.

Green custom will be gorgeous, but at that price I would be tempted to go fully bespoke. Vass can surely also put something on the U-Last.
