Yes, Astaire had a terrific sense of style. The very soft contrasts between shirt and tie color are exceptionally elegant.

This color is very casual and refined, an especially great summer style. I have often read that men with Astaire's coloring should avoid light gray. The film clip seems to dispel this notion.

One can wear any color one wishes to, as long as the color of the shirt and tie are flattering to the face. All the other "rules" about colors and complexions are so much malarky. Light gray is my fav, but the rules say I should not wear it. Ha!

Is it just me or are there some fit issues with Astaire's coat here as to how it fits around the neck (doesn't quite "hug" the neck)?

B and B , please watch again carefully from 2.14 to 2.20 min . Astaire moves his right arm up and the coat responds just like a well fitted shirt .. It's alive but it does come up ..that is what I call fitting .. I think the problem your are seeing probably more in the beginning of the video has probably more to do with his posture ..

Regards
Vassilis
