Guide to cloth and shirt fabric width and (shipping) weights

Let's dissect this topic!

I am interested in measures used in bot the
- imperial system (UK/US, ect.)
- metric system (Continental Europe)

Width of suiting and shirting fabrics (my quick research on Google showed me it varies) in both systems.

The cost of producing selvage denim is more expensive since it can only be woven at a width of 31″, about half the width of non-selvage denim, and is woven on old looms requiring more skill and adeptness.
If I understand correctly for an average sized pant you need 1.5 yards or meter of fabric, so from these you'll need 3.

How the weight of selvage is calculated? How the normal measures of, let's say 14 oz. denim apply in the world of selvage denim?

My aim with this topic is to be able to calculate shipping weights and act accordingly. Thank you for your insights.

Weights per square metre of different width fabrics will be the same!!

Weight per running metre will vary depending on width. You need to clarify with the merchant whether weights stipulated are per square metre or running metre.
