These pictures have been in the LL for a couple of years. Now and then I return to them. Pure pleasure.
Have you noticed how all the photographs of men in white tie, morning suit, dinner jacket or regatta blazer could have been taken yesterday, while all the photographs of women (very well dressed indeed) look so dated.
Is this a case of style vs fashion?

This reminds me reading somewhere that Evelyn Waugh was profoundly outraged when he spotted some men wearing black tie -- rather than white tie -- to his daughter's début party.
Wonderful portraits, thank you for sharing Stephen. White tie is so much more debonaire isn't it? I see it so rarely.
What strikes me is how socially unacceptable cigarette smoking has become (to my eyes). No sophisticated English woman would be seen dead in a photograph with a fag in their mouth nowadays. French women are less sensitive but the general mileu are turning against it.
