I was very impressed by Alden's photo of the DOW's formal overcoat here:

My wife thinks this coat is beautiful but too feminine for a man now. What would a current variation be that would preserve the features of the heavy fabric, the double-breast, and the Astrakhan collar?

It seems to me that the feminine aspects of the astrakhan coat are the slanted pockets and the waist suppression. Square those up and you get something a little more masculine. For example, transfer the fur collar to the naval greatcoat and you may be onto something.

You wound me. Absent the furry collar and in a herringbone, I have that coat.

Thank you, but I misspoke. I checked the details on my coat, and the breast pocket is not nearly as angled and the sleeves are not cuffed. All I have is a DB overcoat with angled flap pockets.
